Pelican lake village "was named for the lake on which it is located. The lake was named because of the 'pelicans' that abounds [sic] on the lake every fall. That an Indian Chief who lived on the lake, carried the same name as the Indian tongue that the lake did, is doubtless a legend only, as no such Indian name can be found."
